Day 12: "Choir Cairn" For 600
Its’s the last full day of camp! The campers woke up excited for the events to come. During breakfast counselor Owen hosted “Theory Bowl”, a music themed Jeopardy game between Conductors Eric, Mr. Brown, and Counselor Will. It was an intense game, but in the end Eric won $2400 in monopoly money! Warmups were led by voice teacher Liz, followed by the camper’s last musicianship class.
Ensemble had the amazing opportunity zooming with Alejandro Martinez, the Librettist for one of the pieces they are working on called “Gritos”. After rehearsal, the campers had hotdogs for lunch, a special birthday celebration for Ainsley, and an eventful spirit judging for character day. Some highlights were a group of singing Minions, Carebears, and a couple of Jokers.
During free time, some campers attended “last call” for arts and crafts, where they worked on their favorite craft that was offered during camp. Many others participated in a huge game of Marco Polo in the pool, and four campers, Aiden, Natasha, Adrien, and Allison, played a mini game of Capture the Flag with Counselor Owen. Overheard during free time: when Ryan asked camper Nora if she was excited to perform for her parents tomorrow, she replied “No because that means camp is ending!”
Recital was filled with ensemble members showcasing songs that they worked on with their voice teachers since the beginning of camp. Afterwards was dinner, which included cheesy garlic bread, ribs, and veggies. Many of the campers were eager to go to evening rehearsal, where Ensemble and Concert Choir had their first joint rehearsal.
The last evening activity of choir camp was the closing Cairn ceremony. Campers and staff gathered in to Redwood Amphitheater to pick up a rock that was placed in the center of the stage on the first day, talk about their growth during camp, and later find a place to leave the rock for new members of camp to discover in years to come. Looking forward to tomorrows events!
