Day 2: Choir Camp = Home

Today was the first full day of camp! After a delicious breakfast of eggs, toast, bananas, and other yummy treats, singers headed to the redwood amphitheater for warmups.

After warmups were the first musicianship classes (formerly theory classes) of camp, with a particular focus this camp on music reading and auditory skills. During musicianship, Daniel discovered he has perfect pitch!

Free time was full of swimming, voice lessons, friendship bracelets, and capture the flag. Tate taught all the joyful voices campers how to make lanyards.

At recital, we had our first camper perform! Kassandra played violin for us, along with staff member performances.

Our evening activity was “counselor bingo.” The campers split into eleven groups and got to go around trying to figure out which fun fact belonged to which staff member. A few fan favorite facts were “was almost a child actor but couldn’t sing happy birthday” and “got their ice cream stolen by a seagull in Helsinki on choir tour.” Overheard during counselor bingo: “This is so fun!!!”

To end off tonight’s blog post, here’s a cute conversation overheard between two joyful voices campers:
Camper 1: “I want to go home!”
Camper 2: “I don’t!”
Camper 1: “I mean home like our cabin home!”

(They ended the conversation agreeing that choir camp is what they will be calling “home” until further notice.)
