Day 2: Bingo Bonanza

Campers woke bright and early at 7:30, to a lovely foggy morning where our first of four camp deer were spotted for the day. For breakfast, campers delighted in pancakes (some drenched in syrup) and sausages, and a selection of cereal with milk.

After filling up, singers had their first warm-up with Eric, warming up their voices and lots of stretching to get ready for the day ahead.

Today was our first day of musicianship, where campers are sorted by skill level and learn the skills to be better musicians. In Mr. Brown’s theory class, we practiced singing rhythmically and learning to sing scales solo. A fun highlight was camper Mia H. asking how long Musicianship was, and after hearing it was an hour, declaring brightly, “Yay, cause I love it!”. In Owen’s theory class, campers worked on sight reading and practiced scales. Campers, Nico and Ainsley have been really showing off their skills!

After musicianship, singers proceeded to their rehearsals, with many expressing delight at the new repertoire. Ensemble singers, in particular, shared great enthusiasm.

Today was also the first day of cabin clean up, there were some lovely contenders, as well as some who are still learning to tidy up. (Parents, you know what we’re talking about). Cabin Hawk of Joyful Voices was our top clean cabin of the day.

For lunch, we enjoyed pizza and snap peas, as well as lots and lots of water to stay hydrated.

After lunch, Campers competed in our first Spirit Day: Color Day, and we saw a variable rainbow of outfits, face paint, and accessories, including a notable rainbow wig and butterfly wings from Camper Lenna.

Today’s spirit winners were Cabin Trout, first place for impeccable color variety, in second place, Cabin Bagger scored for creativity, and Cabin Hawk won third place for expertly tie-dyed Joyful Voices.

After a blissfully peaceful rest period full of reading, napping, and writing letters home, campers thrived in their Free Time, enjoying arts and crafts, games of tether ball, and trips to the Turtle Pond.

Today’s craft was scratch-off door hangers, (parents be ready for lots of rainbow do not disturb signs coming home). Many campers made their first friendship bracelets and lanyards, including Beatrix and Avi. Cabin Frog also made cabin clean-up signs hoping to score extra points tomorrow.

At Turtle Pond, campers Cara, Roya, and Alexis crossed the suspension bridge to the lake, aptly naming it the “Indiana Jones Bridge”. Plenty of campers hopped in boats canoeing and kayaking around the lake. Camper Liam D and CIT Kailamae managed to rescue a little dragonfly from drowning and delivered it safely home. Campers, Adrian, Michael, and Aiden competed in kayak races. There were also many cannonballs and a few belly flops.

Ensemble and CC campers had their first voice lessons and voice classes today — voice teacher Dana made singers lay on their backs and learn deep breathing. Many expressed new excitement for vocal technique.

After free time ended, campers and staff gathered for Recital with serenades from counselor Owen, Voice teachers, Alice, Dana, and Liz as well as a gorgeous performance of Faith is a Bird, by our CITs and Director Tate.

And lastly, our singers finished off their evening with a lively and close game of Counselor Bingo, where singers try to guess and match exciting facts of their counselors with only a few guesses. We are looking forward to all the fun that tomorrow will bring… see you soon!!
