Day 4: Fashion and Fun

Our campers are sleeping peacefully after an eventful day at camp! Breakfast was eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, and cereal. Afterwards, warm-ups were led by voice teacher Dana. She taught us through some exercises to reduce vocal fatigue. During rehearsal, Ensemble worked hard on their French diction for “The Hedgehog,” while Camp Joyful Voices worked hard on their hedgehog crafts! Lunch was delightful turkey and cheese sandwiches and the spirit day today was “Excessive Accessories,” so campers showed off all their hats, scarves, and many, many masks and then headed to our cabins for a relaxing rest period.

During free time, groups of campers went to the pond and to the creek. At the pond, Joyful Voices campers Winnie, Clio, Charlotte, and Nora learned from the Walker Creek Ranch lifeguards about the invasive Elodea that grows in the pond, so they used buckets to gather as much of the weed as they could so the fish wouldn’t eat it. At the creek, campers played with the water skaters (fitting, as the topic of one of Joyful Voices’ songs!). Winnie was so excited about her plans for tomorrow and couldn’t decide whether she wants to go boating or go to the creek, and she wishes we had more days of camp!

During Recital in the evening, we heard from Miss Anne, counselor Maddy, CIT Alex, and voice teacher Alice. Dinner was barbecue chicken and mac and cheese, with delicious lemon bars.

After another rehearsal, our evening activity was the Choral Fashion Design Awards Gala (C.F.D.A.G.). The theme was space, so each cabin was assigned a celestial body or other space-related concept to inspire their designs. The campers had 15 minutes to come up with looks before it was time to walk down the runway! Camper Ginevra dressed as the Sun Worm and wore a sleeping bag. Every cabin did a fantastic job, and this year’s first place winners were Cabin Badger! As a prize, they’ll get to dress their counselor Apryl in whatever wacky outfit they want tomorrow. Everyone is looking forward to seeing what they put together for Apryl, as well as the other adventures tomorrow will bring.
