Day 9: Skibidi Opera
Campers knew they were in for a great day when they woke up to a delicious French toast breakfast. Tim led an energetic dance warm-up, while campers who needed a little more time to wake up had a quiet warm-up with Eric outside.
During today’s rehearsals, Concert Choir continued working on Fog and a God, as well as the “Dream” set that they sang for Dr. Dilworth in West Virginia. Singers are excited about the unique challenge of Fog and a God and kept singing it in the line for lunch!
Ensemble continued working on Carmina Burana. To aid in memorizing lots of words, the singers made up choreography to go with each phrase! Ensemble also had conversations about what qualities they’re looking for from their peers for the leadership team and section leaders.
After delicious chicken tenders for lunch, campers showed off their spirit day outfits for “Seeing Double” day — lots of campers matched their clothes with their friends! Our spirit day winners for the day were Eagle (plus Avi) in first place, Salmon in second place, and a combined group of Owl, Hawk, and Enzo in third place.
At afternoon free time, many campers went to arts and crafts to continue decorating their amazing clothes they tie-dyed yesterday, this time using fabric markers. They drew lots of fun designs — Avi filled his shirt with silly fast food puns! Lots of campers also signed each other’s shirts to remember all the fun times they’ve been having and friends they’ve been making at camp this year. They also got to sign Counselor Piper’s tie-dye shirt and Camp Director Tate’s tote bag (a Tate bag, so to speak)! One group of Joyful Voices campers went to Turtle Pond and took turns in pedal boats, while the others stayed at arts and crafts. Daria and Eleanor got to do tie-dye together! A group of campers also had a fun game of Apples to Apples at the tarp.
Recital was once again a delight, with several student performers. Maeve, Andrea, and Enzo performed beautifully! Voice Teacher Alice also blew us all away with some incredible high notes during her performance.
We enjoyed chicken quesadillas for dinner. The guacamole and pico de gallo were a big hit, followed by Rice Krispies treats for dinner!
Tonight’s evening activity was Opera in a Box, where campers were divided into groups and given 15 minutes to come up with a short opera— a skit where everything was sung instead of spoken. Each group had an assortment of items they all had to include in the skit: a bandana, a colorful scarf, a cone, a fan, two googly eyes, and a cardboard box or paper bag. They also had to choose three words from a list of five: cookies, crispy, skibidi, turtle, and fog. Lots of groups used songs they’ve been learning in rehearsal as part of their skits, including Fog and a God! Zoe S-W was nervous to perform but worked up the courage and did a fantastic job!
Tuckered out from another fun day, campers went to sleep excited to get the rest they need to have an equally great day tomorrow!
